Narrated by Bob Cowsill, FAMILY BAND: THE COWSILLS STORY revisits the birth and rise of The Cowsills through interviews with family members, industry executives and other musicians, as well as original broadcast footage of the family as they rose to fame in the 1960s. With several hit records, appearances on Ed Sullivan, their own television specials, and cover stories in teen magazines, it appeared as if the members of this family led charmed lives. We soon learn, however, that their lives were anything but a fairy tale. Struggles within the family as well as within their business circle created an unhealthy and destructive environment that would leave the children scattered across the country with no ability to function as adults and no financial foundation once the band and family fell apart.

The true story of an American family that Hollywood sweetened for consumption under The Partridge Family TV show. Like the Jackson Family, the father is a serial abuser of his talented kids and so alienates business partners that the family band loses major gigs on Ed Sullivan and other top shows in 1969-70. The kids are all right now and came together for this documentary.
